I’m Nasima, the founder of Complex, and I have a profound passion for marketing. Truly, it’s the field I love. Yet, there’s a glaring exception to this affection: the inadequate efforts of marketers within fintech, finance, and investing sectors to effectively engage women like myself. These efforts are crucial for fostering our financial knowledge and empowerment. Recently, I took to LinkedIn to express my frustration on this very issue—the disappointing approach to targeting women in the investment sphere.
Here’s what grinds my gears:
– Fintechs, investor platforms, trading sites and the poor inability to target women to help us further our financial education. Why does it seem like you’ve barely tried to engage with me, or women like me, to bolster our financial knowledge and help us grow or equally reach the same levels as our male counterparts?
Countless women out there, myself included, have the means but remain oblivious to our financial prowess, simply because these brands have *dropped the ball* on reaching out to us or just havent really figured out how to target us, speak to us in the right way.
As a marketer, it’s disheartening to see such a glaring oversight in efforts to close the financial education gap for women. This should be a no-brainer for every fintech firm and investment platform out there – a crucial part of their social mission.
I see myself as someone articulate, with dreams of financial independence. Yet, here I am, feeling like my financial know-how is stuck in the dark ages. I’m certain there are millions of other women feeling the same, clueless about where to start or unaware of their true potential.
A few weeks ago, while doing some digging for a client, I stumbled upon a graph showing Bitcoin’s wild ride. I remembered a conversation from last year, someone promising to teach me about Bitcoin, to help me invest. It fizzled into nothing, but had I jumped on it back in December, who knows? I might’ve been a few peaks higher.
So, it’s time to start… And it begins with me…. and this Mastering Money – The Marketer’s Edition. I am on a quest to go through the early phases of discovery on how to build the knowledge to better my financial knowledge and also to identify how these fintech and investing platform brands are getting it so wrong to fully miss the mark and not target us and document my journey.
Stay with me, it might be a slow journey. But every step is one step closer to more knowledge i will document in how we need to get to that journey.
